Aurill is a senior litigator with significant private practice and public sector experience. She has acted in a wide range of complex civil commercial, regulatory enforcement, investigative and public law matters. She has also argued cases involving significant questions of law at both first instance and appellate stages.
Aurill started her litigation practice with Rajah & Tann in 1992, made partner in 1996 and headed its Banking & Financial Services Litigation Practice from 1999 to 2002. She was headhunted to join the Monetary Authority of Singapore in 2002 as MAS’ first Director of Enforcement and later served as the Head of its Market & Business Conduct Department. Aurill returned to Rajah & Tann in 2007 to establish and co-lead its Appeals & Issues Practice until 2012. She spent a second stint in public service as Deputy Chief Counsel (Litigation) at the Attorney - General’s Chambers (Civil Division) from 2012 to 2017, where she had responsibilities for AGC’s civil litigation function. Aurill returned to private practice in 2018 as Director with Legal Clinic LLC.
She currently serves as a Board Member of PUB Singapore’s National Water Agency. She is also a Civilian Panel Member of the Military Court of Appeal and a Member of the Monetary Authority of Singapore Appeal Advisory Panel, as well as a volunteer with the Law Society Pro Bono Services and the Legal Aid Bureau.
1. Insider trading and securities market misconduct
As MAS’ Director of Enforcement, Aurill was responsible for securities market enforcement and personally worked on many of MAS’ early high-profile insider trading and securities misconduct enforcement actions.
2. Regulatory investigations
Aurill was a member of the team that advised forensic accountants in various high-profile investigations, such as those into the collapse of the Baring Group (1995) and the financial failure of the Amcol Group of companies (1996). She has also represented regulatory agencies, as well as assisted corporates in internal investigations and submissions to authorities on matters involving a myriad of regulations. These include the Securities and Futures Act, the Financial Advisers Act, the Banking Act and the Corruption, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crimes (Confiscation of Benefits) Act.
3. Commercial disputes
Aurill has extensive experience representing corporates and financial institutions in complex commercial disputes, including those involving financial derivative contracts, structured products and private banking. She has also acted in a wide spectrum of high value shareholder, letters of credit, trust law and employment disputes with cross border implications. Aurill sits both as an arbitrator and a FIDReC adjudicator.

She has also appeared in a wide range of significant public law cases. These include:
- AXY and ors v Comptroller of Income Tax [2018] SGCA 23 (Court of Appeal): Successfully defending the decision of the Comptroller to provide information to a foreign tax authority under Exchange of Information arrangements. This case also involved a significant ruling by the Court of Appeal on the admissibility of new matters in judicial review proceedings.
- Comptroller of Income Tax v ARW and another (AG intervener) [2017] SGHC 180 (High Court): Successfully arguing for the right of the Attorney- General to intervene in a private litigation to protect public interest privilege.
- Novelty Dept Store Pte Ltd v Collector of Land Revenue [2016] 2 SLR 766 (Court of Appeal): Successfully defending an appeal against an award of compensation under the Land Acquisition Act.
- AG & Anor v Aljunied Hougang Punggol East Town Council [2015] 4 SLR 474 (High Court); [2016] 1 SLR 915 and [2016] SGCA 60 (Court of Appeal): Successfully obtaining a court order under section 21 (2) of the Town Councils Act to compel an errant town council to perform its statutory obligations. This application was the first of its kind in Singapore and involved numerous novel questions of law.
